Congratulations for your work! I want to ask your opinion if benzoyl peroxide is going to be effective for P.Acnes. How do you recommend that it should be applied?

Hey Steve,

You can certainly try GLA orally or topically as a test. Readers tend to respond to it differently (some report improvements to skin health, others more acne). Sourcing likely matters. If going with an oil — make sure it’s cold-pressed and in a dark bottle to prevent oxidation. And let us know how things go! I’d love to hear if you see improvements after a couple months.

Best,
Rob

I have oily facial skin and scalp, but I don’t suffer from acne. For the past two years I’ve been getting a pimple several times a week in random areas on my vertex and hairline, which I put down to high DHT influenced sebum protection in MPB. I have MPB with norwood 3 progression and very noticable diffuse thinning on vertex. I am a month into your massage therapy exercises. I wanted to ask in light of this article, how do you feel about GLA supplementation? In my diet (which aligns with your book) I consume very little vegetable oils – the only source being extra virgin olive oil drizzled on salad. Your article made me think I could lessen the sebum, thwart P. Acnes if it’s feeding on my scalp, and improve the scalp environment with a little more Omega6 – of which it seems GLA is perhaps the best.

Thanks for your thoughts!

If the sides of your scalp are thinning, and you’ve presented previously with low vitamin D (as you mentioned in your email), I’d recommend getting checked for hyperparathyroidism. That usually results in overall hair thinning across the entire scalp.

Hey Harpreet — we’ve communicated over email since this comment, but I’d recommend looking into doing testing for gut dysbiosis. Your lab results didn’t show any signs of nutrient deficiencies — which would often indicate small intestinal bacterial overgrowth — and yet your case still presents with forms of digestive distress (i.e., symptoms of acne / skin sensitivity). As a result, I’d guess your gut problems are likely focused in the large intestine.

Stool testing is a good place to start. While it’s likely that addressing these non-hair related health issues will have only a marginal impact on your pattern hair loss (at best, the right diet slows or stops hair loss, but doesn’t reverse it), you’ll likely feel so much better.

I gone through your website recently and found you are doing great research .

My struggle to fight hair loss is very long but I haven’t succeeded in it .

It’s now 10 years , I used to have long and thick hairs , I feel now they are left 1/4th

2 yeas back I was diagonised with severe vitamin d deficiency , I don’t know from how long I was suffering , I thought that’s the reason for my hair fall but after it recovered I don’t gain any hairs . Now
I have done all the blood test but nothing came in them , thyroid , iron bit b12 , hormonal levels all good ( I was also taking a complete multivitamin though )

About family history me and my father has same thin hairs which started thinning at same age . To him it seems because of acute dandruff, to me it seems highly oily scalp and pimples that hurt when I press that area .also he never much about his dandruff as much I did in my life . I too have mild dandruff . I have always used antidandruff shampoos , tried lemon juice and many other natural things . So that’s how our scalp is

I recently noticed that my scalp is tight really and when I tried to do deutesmence therapy it hurts when I do pressing n all . I started believing now that pimples n oily scalp is the reason since nothing came in my blood test .
I don’t have any food allergies , I was always drinking milk in my life , but I get sick if eat unhygienic foods easily , also when I get my monthly periods my stomach gets upset initially . But when I see the diet changes comments by other people I don’t understand what I will eat if I quit grains n dairy , that means only fruits n veggies? ?
Now I started applying clove oil , I’m finding it quite helpful .
Please put some light on my hair loss , and how to treat the p.acne if that’s the case , and what can I eat

I have done blood and urine, but I honestly cannot tell if those parameters were analyzed. I do know that I do not suffer from anemia, so iron deficiency seems to be out of question. I could try to scan the tests and post it here, but they are in Portuguese, so maybe I could translate them for you and see what you find. Although I have to say that 99% of these tests that I have done (and they are over a dozen) were always in good shape. Which is a good thing, but also frustrating.

My mother and sister suffer from thyroid problems, so who knows, maybe I have something going on there that might be upsetting my body. I plan to talk with my gastroenterologist and see if something can be done, regarding blood and urine work.

I am from Portugal, so I am far away from being in the US, sadly. I did find this Lab:

https://www.germanodesousa.com/en/

Is this what I should be looking for?

Thanks again.
